Remembrance Commemorations

In light of the current commemorations for the 80th anniversary of D Day we thought we’d pop a reminder out to the knitting & crochet experts in the community to remind them of our proposal for Remembrance this year.

Since 2017 Breaston has been proudly displaying the Royal British Legion Lamp Post Poppies in the run up to Remembrance Sunday. Unfortunately, the poppies are made from unrecyclable plastic and as they have got damaged over the years the number we have available has reduced and reduced. The Parish Council has a responsibility to reduce the use of single use plastics and we have been thinking about how to move forward with our Remembrance display. You will probably be aware of the numerous brilliant displays put on by the village particularly the “yarn bombing” Pins Hooks and Pom Poms craft group who, supported by the Parish Council,  rallied residents to knit and crochet hundreds and hundreds of poppies for various wonderful displays. So, again we are asking you to get out your knitting needles and crochet hooks to make knitted/crocheted poppies so that we can put on another brilliant display through the village again this coming November. Any poppies can be delivered to the Parish Rooms, Blind Lane, Breaston, Derbyshire, DE72 3DW
