Flood Risk: A Quick Reminder

We’ve recently taken delivery of our flood risk sand from Erewash Borough Council. With the change in weather, we thought it was a good time to share a few reminders about what to look out for and how you can help reduce the risk of flooding in our parish.
Sand and sandbags available for residents
We have sand and sandbags available for residents to use in preparation for potential flooding. These are available at three locations across the parish:
  • Spring Close
  • Breaston Cemetery (Car Park)
  • Adjacent to the Parish Rooms, Blind Lane.

Flooding doesn’t just come from rivers and streams. Heavy rainfall, surface water run-off and blocked or overloaded street gullies can all contribute to localised flooding.

Please keep an eye out when you’re out and about:
Blocked drains and gullies: If you spot one that appears blocked, please report it to Derbyshire County Council or let the Parish Clerk know. https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/…/report-a-road-fault.aspx
Blocked or overgrown ditches: These can prevent water from draining away properly. Please report any issues so they can be investigated and appropriate action taken.
Need more information? Visit the flood information page on the Parish Council website for useful advice, guidance and information on what to do if you’re concerned about flooding. https://www.breastonparishcouncil.gov.uk/…/flood…/
By keeping an eye out and reporting potential problems early, we can all help reduce flood risk and protect our community.
Please stay safe and look out for one another!
